About Us
The Swedish School of Delaware Inc. is a non-profit school founded in 2005 by a group of Swedish parents. We speak Swedish and celebrate Swedish traditions in an effort to strengthen our children’s Swedish identity. The Swedish School of Delaware is a place where we meet and cherish our Swedish heritage - as a group and as individuals.
The School's mission is to provide education in the Swedish language and culture to children ages 0-12. The School Class, for students 6-12 years of age, focuses on language skills and cultural knowledge. The Preschool Class is open to children 3-6; it works to prepare the children for the School Class, and builds the students Swedish identity. The School also offers a Playgroup for younger children. The focus for the Preschool Class and Play Group is to speak, sing and participate in Swedish activities and traditions.
Our vision is that the Swedish School of Delaware becomes a place for families and children in the area who desire to be emotional connected with their original culture, preserve and nurture the Swedish language, as well as their deep-rooted traditions. |
During the school year, we celebrate Swedish holidays, for example Waffle Day, Valborg, the Swedish National Day, Midsummer, and Santa Lucia. We also take fieldtrips to places of Swedish heritage throughout the Delaware Valley and Delmarva.
The School is a volunteer-run organization. Our children get support from Swedes all over the Delaware Valley. We invite all to join us – click here for more information on how to support us.
